Crispy Mongolian Tofu

With Caramelized Onions & Chili Peppers

Serve with a side of broccoli or bok choy.


Here is what you will need for the dish:

1 16 Oz. Pkg. Extra Firm Tofu, pressed

3 Tbsp. Corn Starch

1 Onion, halved, sliced thin

Toasted Sesame Seeds, to taste

Sliced Red Hot Chili, to taste


And for the Sauce:

1/4 Cup Soy Sauce

2 Tbsp. Sesame Oil

1 1/2 Tbsp. Hoisin Sauce

1 Tbsp. Rice Wine Vinegar

1 1/2 tsp. Maple Syrup

1/2 tsp. Five Spice

1 1/2 tsp. Corn starch + 1 Tbsp. Water (mix together before adding)


Directions:

Add all sauce ingredients to a bowl and whisk together, set aside for later.

Caramelize the onions in a large pan.

Pat your pressed tofu dry, then cut it into bit size pieces and toss it in the corn starch.

Fry the tofu in a shallow amount of very hot oil till brown and crispy.

Add your tofu to the onions, sprinkle over the chili's and pour over the sauce. Simmer til the sauce is thick and coats the tofu. Stir gently.

Add the onions and your red chili. Serve over rice.
